Established in 1906 the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra is not only Australia’s oldest orchestra, but one of the country’s most forward-looking major arts institutions. It currently engages over 5 million people through live and recorded broadcasts and performs live to more than 300,000 people annually. The MSO presents innovative and engaging programs to audiences of all ages across Victoria through its Education and Community Engagement initiatives.

Applications are sought from musicians of outstanding ability for the following positions with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

Associate Principal Viola

Expressions of Interest

Exceptional musicians are invited to submit an expression of interest for the permanent position of Associate Principal Viola.

Interested parties must submit a resume with relevant contact details and experience. If available, candidates are also invited to submit a link to a recording to support their expression of interest.

Following an initial shortlisting process, a small number of musicians will be invited to Melbourne for a “pre-trial” including 3-4 weeks orchestral performance and presentation of the required audition repertoire live for the audition panel. Following the conclusion of all pre-trials, a full trial will be offered to the preferred candidate.

Interested musicians are encouraged to submit applications as soon as possible. The panel will begin assessing applications immediately upon receipt.

This position is a full-time position and is open to candidates of all nationalities.
